When I think of hikes in and around the city, I think of Mt. Davidson, Fort Funston, Lands End. I’d never heard of McLaren Park before this year, when my friend recommended we check it out. I guess it makes sense that it wasn’t on my radar, as apparently it used to be a place “where they dump the bodies“. Thanks to a couple major revitalization projects, though, the park has turned into a gem. Plus, it’s an easy destination for taking a stroll.
Crowd factor: Could have been the weather – drizzly – but the park still felt undiscovered.
Distance: ~3 miles
Pro tips: The “attentive” older gentlemen drinking beers at the club house at 10am informed us that there’s only one entrance/exit for the golf course, so don’t try to go hiking through it.
Date hiked: 3/5/17
